Scrap Chronicles: Part 3 - Birdie Blue

Scrap Chronicles: Part 3 - Birdie Blue

Welcome back to Scrap Chronicles—my four-part series highlighting where the materials for Cravn Jewelry come from. Each chapter spotlights one of the incredible makers and companies whose leftovers make their way into my studio and eventually into your jewelry box.

Birdie Blue’s Story

BirdieBlue is a woman-led, joy-forward, outdoor brand committed to keeping textiles out of the landfill. What began as an experiment in extending the life of old ski and snowboard gear has become a full-blown movement, upcycling brightly colored jackets into equally bold accessories designed for adventure. Their mission is simple and powerful: create sustainable gear, spark joy, and protect our #birdieblueadventures for generations to come.

Founder Kate Harvey left corporate life for a fanny-pack-fueled dream, a dream filled with color, second chances, and the belief that joy is an act of environmental stewardship. Her pieces are functional, durable, and fun as hell.

A Match Made in Up-Cycling Heaven

Kate and I met at a small Earth Day market here in Burlington. Was it 2021? Maybe 2022? The post-pandemic timeline blur is real. Regardless, we bonded instantly over our shared love of up-cycling and our desire to build businesses that reflect our values.

Since then, we’ve traveled to shows together, swapped creative marketing and business ideas, and carved out time for an annual end-of-year “retreat” where we decompress, dream big, and reset. She rocks my earrings, I carry at least one Birdie bag everywhere I go, and occasionally we even sneak out for a little mountain biking. Creativity is better with friends, and Kate is one of the best.

The Double Up-Cycle

And then came collaboration. Kate transforms discarded ski gear into fanny packs, totes, dopp kits, and more. I collect the colorful leftover scraps from her cutting table, pieces too small for a bag, but perfect for jewelry. Together, we give every fiber as much life as we possibly can.

This is our second collection made from Birdie Blue offcuts, and it’s vibrant: bright, interchangeable studs and vibrant bangles. Up-cycling squared. Waste reduced. Beauty amplified.

Want to see these scraps transformed?

The newest interchangeable studs made from Birdie Blue leftovers are live and full of color. Each pair is lightweight, bold, and carries the spirit of adventure, just like the gear they came from.

Check out the studs made from Birdie Blue scraps and bring a little upcycled joy to your everyday style. Due to their uniqueness, bangles are only available at in-person events.
